Mohamad Ahmed, Caalin Tiinbaro). “This is a great project for the region and it will create job opportunities and economic growth for the region, therefore all of us need to contribute to making this happen.”

Charitable Work In Rural Communities
With an emphasis on helping communities as they help themselves, Daalo Education & Environment Development runs a range of projects throughout the country. We build extra classrooms for schools that need them, and help improve the education facilities in rural areas. We also work to improve local infrastructures, such as roads and clean water supplies, helping rural communities stay connected. Another important facet of the work we do is the provision of emergency healthcare services; setting up treatment centres and supplying them.
If you have a passion for helping people, why not get in touch and see how you can get involved?

Community Engagement
Our work starts with a consultation with the local community.
Expanding the Capacity of Karin Community School, Karin Village, Somaliland.
We have been able to build two additional classrooms for this school, to make room for the increasing number of students in the village. The additional capacity will make space for 50 more students. We also provided the school furniture and stationery.

Tabca Road Rehabilitation Appeal
Daalo Education and Environmental Development (DEED) in UK and Somaliland are currently working together to raise funds to repair this risky road and improve access to local people who are isolated. So far we have been successful in raising from the Sanaag Diaspora community in the west about $140,000. However we still urgently need more funds to get to our $250,000 target.

Teacher Incentives
The project aims to encourage teachers to work in rural/ remote areas, as most of them prefer to work in cities due to better living conditions and higher salaries.
In order to retain teachers in rural areas, DEED is providing financial incentives to teachers. The government does not pay enough a salary to teachers working in rural areas, it only pays $95 per month. Therefore we pay an additional $100 per month to individual teachers as encouragement and to meet travel costs so they can see their families frequently.
